Pratt & Whitney, which is an American aviation and space company, is based in Hartford, Connecticut. Affiliated to United Technologies Corporation, Pratt & Whitney's aircraft engines are widely used in both civil aviation and military aviation.
Established in 1860 by Francis Pratt and Amos Whitney in the city of Hartford as a company of tools and equipment, agriculture, farming and a weapon manufacturer in the period of American civil war , the company crossed paths with Frederick Brant Rentschler , who was a pilot in World War I, in the year 1925 while he was seeking capital and a production facility for the purpose of producing the first aircraft engine. Their cooperation has led to laying foundations of the company known as Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Company today.
